About the Role
Position Overview
The General Ledger & Cost Accountant plays a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and providing insightful cost accounting support. As a direct report to the Controller, this position combines hands-on transaction management with analytical cost reporting to support business decision-making in a child safety focused organization.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger Management:
Process, reconcile, and maintain GL accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Support month-end and year-end close cycles, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Cost Accounting & Analysis:
Track, analyze, and report on product and operational costs across production, shipping, and storage.
Provide actionable insights into cost variances, efficiency improvements, and margin enhancement.
Financial Reporting and Collaboration:
Assist the Controller in preparing financial statements, analyzing trends, and offering recommendations.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Operations, Procurement, Manufacturing) to interpret cost data and support budget planning.
Process Improvement & Compliance:
Identify opportunities to streamline GL and cost accounting processes and improve automation.
Ensure adherence to internal controls, standard operating procedures, and GAAP requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or Cost Accounting certification preferred).
3–5 years of experience in general ledger accounting, cost accounting, or similar roles, preferably in manufacturing or supply chain settings.
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in accounting systems
Detail-oriented, methodical, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and collaborative abilities.
